BeesWax Websites

Using newsletters to stay in touch with your visitors.

Granny would be so proud!

Some of the first feedback we got from our original testers on BeesWax, was”What’s with all the newsletter signups? I don’t send newsletters!”  And it wasn’t just one of our testers who said thisóit was a pretty common response.  So, perhaps, some explanation is in order about what newsletters do, how easy they are to maintain, and why you most certainly do need to be sending them, whenever you can.

Let’s talk first about what happens when someone signs up for a newsletter on your new website.

It’s really simple, actually.  Their name goes into a list.  (you can find all of their email addresses on your”Reports” tab on the dashboard).

What you do with that list is entirely up to you.  You might never send a newsletter.  You might send a newsletter every year or so.  You might send one seasonally, weekly, daily, etc.  You get the picture.

There are many newsletter builders on the market today.  Most let small business owners send newsletters for free, up to a certain number.  Mailchimp’s forever free program is pretty good, for instance.  Just find a newsletter company you like, and use them.

Alternatively, if you want to use your personal or business email to correspond personally with your customers on a one-on-one basis, those email addresses you collect are yours to use, however you want.

So that’s the howóbut the why?

Not everyone picks up and reads every email that lands in their inbox, but the fact remains, many people do.  And for those who do read your mail, you’ll be at the top of their minds, come Christmas, anniversaries, Halloween, and all those other fun occasions that people like to buy your stuff.  Sending the occasional newsletter keeps you relevant and familiar.

What to send?

Not every email service shows pictures for commercial emails, but it’s good to include some pictures for those that do.

Be sure to include your company name, a little bit of info about what’s new, and a link to where they can buy it (we recommend linking back to your website, rather than your Etsy shop, because it builds traffic)
